We should kill this blog.
Amy, I added a blog to my home page. Maybe I could add you as a guest contributor there and we use that one?

Cold, So Cold
A good amount of the country is being hit with severe weather and we in Colorado are experiencing some of the extreme cold. It is ten after seven at night and five below with the index at 21 below (it is not even this cold in Barrow). Our high today was one, I think. You can't be outside for more than five seconds before your jeans are frozen stiff. (I do wonder what it'll be like at midnight). Schools are closed for tomorrow because of the cold, not because of snow. I let my car run for over a half hour this AM and it was still blowing cold air.
Many kudos to CDOT as the roads are clear and the drive was much less treacherous than expected.
This is ridiculous, that is my only point. I do believe it is time to move to the desert -- the very warm, wonderful desert.

Beautiful Dangerous
Slash is not hot, but this video of his is. I'm addicted to the vocals as well as the riffs.

Global Warming
So, where is this global warming I've been hearing so much about? I'm waiting so impatiently for it. It is currently ten degrees outside (mind you it is only seven degrees colder in Barrow, AK), overnight low expected below zero.
Too damn cold for me!!

A kind of boring, but interesting video of a PRK surgery. Nice to see it from this side, not the phukked up vision on valium, freaking the hell out, gonna puke my guts out side.

Three More Days
I got my Chantix today and no cost from my mega-bitchin' insurance company and I figure it will take all of three days before I don't even think about cigarettes again. I figure this because I've tried the stuff before and it so works for me. Of course, the last time I only had a week's supply. This time I have a month's supply which I will share with the wife so I guess it's a two weeks supply... Anyway, if I can make it a few days without a smoke I can then ration the remaining drugs and taper off them as well. Life will be good.
Today will involve a lot of smoking though :-)

Good News!
Nothing against my previous Doctor but I grew tired of driving all the way to the East Valley and then sitting for an hour (1/2 in the waiting room and 1/2 in the exam room stealing shit) past my appointment time to be seem for 10 minutes.
So today I took a bold step and visited a local NP. I am happy to report that the drive is way shorter and the wait time is a good 5 minutes less. What's with these people and scheduling? When I say, "One o'clock" I don't mean "Somewhere around two-ish".
Blood pressure: 130/80. Weight: 178. EKG good. Lungs clear.
But let's take a moment to talk about forceful, condescending black women who have access to needles.
Bad attitude? ✔
Chip on her shoulder? ✔
Didn't want to deal with my bullshit? ✔
A lot like my wife? ✔
During the Q and A part of the exam I quipped to her, "Now, be nice" and after a few more verbal volleys in my direction I said, "You know, my wife is an evil black women too. So far, I'm not impressed." After that, all was good in the world. I'm going back next week for a smoking cessation consultation. I think it's required by my insurance before I can get medication.

Deep Fried Turkey
Yes, it's as good as you've heard.
Yes, it's kinda dangerous having four gallons of boiling oil over an open flame.
And yes, if you follow Alton Brown's instructions it will all work out just dandy. Best bird ever.

Airport Security
The Israelis are close to deploying an airport security device that eliminates the privacy concerns that come with full-body scanners at most airports.
It's a booth you can step into that will not X-ray you, but will detonate any explosive device you may have on you. They see this as a win-win for everyone with none of this crap about racial profiling. It also would eliminate the costs of a long and expensive trial. Justice would be swift. Case closed!
Picture this. You would be in the airport terminal and hear a muffled explosion. Shortly thereafter an announcement comes over the PA system . . . "Attention EL AL standby passengers - we now have a seat available on flight number XXXX. Shalom! And have a pleasant flight."
Followed by: "Clean-up at security point A."
